Get to know us...
Hi I'm Heather and I started Mapua Country Trading in early 2008 as a mail order company out of the frustration of not being able to find practical products to help live the good life.
Moving on to a block of land and trying to get a garden and livestock going I found it really difficult to source the stuff I needed.
A couple of years on and I've been joined by Lisa, Bronnie and over 171 product suppliers at last count plus a few thousand customers who've signed on for our newsletters and catalogues and a store at Mapua Wharf.
Why are we doing this?
My own philosophy, and what I suppose drives MCT, is that more is less. It's better to have one good hand tool for your garden than a shed full of ones that bend when they look at the dirt.
We also set four really basic drivers for our products:
- Made in New Zealand - why not?
- Made from renewable or recycled materials - because it's not that hard really when you try
- Practical products - lets face it no one needs any more "giftware" in their lives do they?
- Creative and different products - people look at our stuff and say "what a good idea" and we love that.
Where can you meet us?
If you're in the Nelson region visit us at the store down at the Mapua Wharf. We're also getting out and about this year so visit us at one of the following events:

Behind the Scenes at MCT
Visitors often remark on how calm and lovely the store is while we feel a bit like ducks paddling madly under the surface!
Because we make a lot of our products we're also busy sourcing components and assembling the finished article to keep the shelves stocked and the shed full.
We've always got a few products in different stages of development and a long list of what we'd like to build.
