Printanor is a french variety which has become the mainstay commercial variety grown in New Zealand.   

It is a white skinned soft neck variety that produces medium sized bulbs and is easy to grow. High oil content.

Elephant Garlic - sold out for this season

Not a true garlic but a member of the leek family.   Grow in a similar fashion to true garlic do not plant so deeply.   Produces very large bulbs with a stiff neck.  Pinch the flowers out when they start to bud to encourage bigger bulbs.    

The bulbs will put out little hard seed peas around the base and these can be planted straightaway to produce round golf ball sized bulbs the first year and then huge multi-cloved bulbs the second year.    Almost like a bonus crop which is handy if you're trying to multiply your stocks.

Flavour is mild and I use it sliced in stir frys like a spring onion.   Well worth trying.

Strong Red Skinned Garlic - Sold out for this season

This is lovely garlic of unknown variety grown by a local gardener for the last 30 years.    Each year she has saved the best of the crop and regrown it.   It is slightly papery skinned, soft necked with red stripes, more definite stripes than other varieties and a good strong flavour.  It is a good keeper.
