Entertainment at the Ellerslie Flower Show

There were some fabulous performers entertaining the crowds throughout the show, while they queued for the gates to open, while the rain came down and while the sun melted everyone, these guys sang, played and peformed.

The amazing Christchurch Bicycle Band were one of our favourites cycling through the crowd belting out brass band classics.

Rescue Turtle

But for all of that we found our neighbours and the general public provided us with the most entertainment during the week ...

Like this amazing lady who runs a rescue turtle sanctuary ... yes that's right rescue turtles.  They were in a pool in one of the exhibition gardens but kept escaping much to our amusement.

Our neighbours for the week were Heck & Ingrid and their tool holders ... I still can't work out what's wrong with a couple of nails?

The Neighbours

The ladies from Elamite Flowers a few doors down started the show in stunning toga-ey costumes but resorted to merino thermals on the second day...

A few doors down the other way the ladies from Whenua Press had a great backdrop for their stall and some cool NZ books ..

when the rain came down, the temperature plummeted and I had my Nelson shoes on.  The very kind Susan Dent lent me a pair of long socks after watching me freeze while giving my talk on chooks and ducks in the NZ Gardener Speaker Tent.

Wet and Miserable

The folks worth a mention that we didn't get photo's of are our neighbours on the other side Sarah & Jac from Southern Design.  So kind they bought us in a bag of lemons for our evening Gin & Tonic.

Also Rod & Grant from the Allendale stand a few doors down - fellow Nelsonites who lent us food and good advice throughout the event.   They had the best tools at the show - now that sounds wrong but just go look at their website you'll see what I  mean.
