The Best Hand Tools for Gardeners

We're quite chuffed with this collection of hand tools.   You know we try and offer only NZ made and we've hunted out or designed and manufactured quite a few of these hand tools locally.  However there are a couple of essential tools we can't find a New Zealand supplier for so we've worked with a local importer to get the best quality international tools we could to complete the set of what we consider to be essential hand tools for gardeners.    We hope you enjoy them.

The Trovel Hand Tool
The Trovel

The Trovel is a cross between a trowel and a small shovel.   Many gardeners find that it is the most useful hand tool they have ever used in the garden.

It's light, comfortable to hold and easy to work with.  Ideal for planting, weeding, filling pots with potting mix, placing fertiliser, spreading compost and many other uses.

Being made of stainless steel the dirt doesn't build up like many other hand tools.

Made in New Zealand.

The Trovel measures 280mm long and 105mm wide.

The Long Handled Hoe

This NZ made hand hoe becomes an extension of the gardeners hand.

The long handle lets you get to awkward spaces and weed around roses without getting pricked.

Designed as a multi-purpose hand tool - it is the best tool to:

1. Weed & hoe around plants.

2. Create sowing trenches.

3. Plant out seedlings.

4. Break up soil clods and loosening earth.

5. Gather up prunings and weed heaps.

This is a fantastic tool with a sturdy wooden handle and a strong thick steel grubber.   Made in Nelson, NZ.

Okatsune Pointed Thinning Shears

Okatsune have been manufacturing sharp and durable cutting tools for over 70 years in Japan. Using a precise quenching and tempering process they turn high quality steel into blades that test 60 to 61 on the Rockwell C hardness scale - which we are told is high.

These shears feature 50mm needle-point blades, ideal for reaching into tight spaces e.g. thinning bunches of grapes.

Blades have a double beveled edge to facilitate cutting stalks. The easy spring action & light weight make this ideal wherever repetitive, no-crush cuts are required; picking fruit or flowers, cutting buds, gathering vegetables.

The long lasting sharpness makes this an excellent softwood propagation tool.
