This breed originated in Italy and was introduced to America in 1835. It has subsequently been developed by the commercial poultry industry to produce the majority of the worlds eggs.
It produces white eggs and seldom goes broody. A new hen should produce at least 200 eggs per year. It is not recommended as a table bird.
They are small alert and active birds with a "stand up straight" look about them as they strut around the yard.
