The Wyandotte is an old American breed named after the Wyandotte native American Indians. It was accepted as a standardised breed in 1883.
There are many different colours in the breed but the Golden and Silver Laced Wyandottes are the most popular. The Golden Laced birds have attractive brown feathers, ringed with black and with their fluffy bum feathers they remind me of generous ladies wearing lots of petticoats!
They are a dual purpose bird weighing in at 6-7lbs and lay brown to lightly tinted good sized eggs. They will go broody, make good Mum's and are very docile and friendly.
