The Dorking is one of the oldest breeds of chickens bought the Romans to Britain where it was further developed as a breed.
The Dorking is a big square breasted bird and the roosters in particular make a great big roasting bird when young.
They are easy to pluck and are one of the best flavoured of the meat birds in my opinion.
They do lay moderately well but are prone to going broody like many meat birds. They come in different colours, the most common in New Zealand being the silver grey.
